"Tattoos, piercings and dread locs may be who you are but they have no place in the workplace"
My brotha.....brotha...brotha....where do I even begin with this statement. First off, I have to clear this up that tattoos and piercings do not belong in the same category as dread locs....although our youth are lumping all these things together....
My tattoos and piercings are a form of expression and branding my views into my very being. They both date back to our ancestors practices...forms of beauty and status in our eclectic history.
So you have a company and you don't want employees with tattoos and piercings...that is totally up to you and I understand why a person would implement such a law. As silly as it is...but I respect that.
Dread locs....a style of the youth today...an utter of shear defiance?
When I see my brethren and sistren with long strong locs - I see strength, I see a nation standing tall, I feel pride in those locs.
I want to touch them, wrap them around my fingers and embrace what it is to be proud of our heritage.
This is not a fad....nor a fashion statement! This is a movement and our elders need to understand that.
Yes, my locs, tattoos and piercings are who I am! They are apart of who you are, too, my brotha!
I just think that it's sad that you can't see that.....
And to the youth of today who are taking these rituals of our tribal ancestors and turning them into a mockery of our rich culture. Doing the right thing for all the wrong reasons....You are the reason why our culture has been screwed and twisted allowing others on the outside to further ridicule it and reject it.
Take your culture and heritage seriously and others will as well.
And for those of you my brothas and sistas, who don't feel tattoos, piercings and dread locs have a place in your workplace....that's fine. That's also your lost. We are holding up a nation!
All tattoos, piercings and dread locs should come to seele mit herz, LLC.
We will find a place for our people!
And this is a call to other business owners such as myself....let's not leave each other in the dark. Let's uplift each other and support our own!
